| | Revelation: Principles of Interpretation
|
What principles MUST guide the interpretation of this Book… to avoid confusion in worldview? For example, what is the difference between these statements: “To the Church of Ephesus write…” AND “To the ANGEL of the Church of Ephesus, write…”? There is a BIG difference!
We believe the Book of Revelation is inspired by God. We know the Prophets and Apostles were the foundation, with Christ as our Chief Cornerstone, and the Temple, erected upon the foundation, stone by stone and brick by brick is each one of God's people and their particular calling.
Every book in the Bible has a different purpose and acts in perfect union to give us a perfectly set forth world view of the mind of God.
Learn which principles must guide us in interpreting this book. Failure to understand any of these principles has lead to confusion of application.
God's people should understand that the Temple of the Lord is represented as follows:
- It is a pictoral worldview representation of God's active work in His Heavenly- originated, Christ-mediated Temple, the Church of Christ, and...
- It pictures Solomon's Temple as the prophetically picture of the Great Commission in the details of all of its construction, and...
- It shows the reality that Christ is the Mediator for His people and Church throughout history, and...
- It shows us that Revelation is picturing the effects of His Mediatorial Glory in and through the march of His people throughout history...
Failure to understand such themes will only lead to further confusion in worldview...
There are those who hold to the understanding that Revelation takes place in, for the most part, a very narrow frame of reference...say the first century. We believe that does violence to too many principles of hermeneutics and as a result becomes a misleading commentary on Revelation.
What is the purpose of the Book?
Why is the Book of Revelation so difficult to understand?
What episodes in history may illustrate the impact of this Book upon man and society?
